Unity’s New SF Hood

Last weekend the staff of Unity’s SF office were setting desks up in our new office. We’re now in the historic Jackson Square neighborhood nestled between China Town, North Beach, the Financial District, and the Embarcadero. We’ve been in our new space for a week now and I really love it! Not only is it great to have our own space, but our new neighborhood is definitely more of a neighborhood. We moved from an area in SOMA which is defined by its four lane one way streets, lack of retail, concrete, and the constant drum of jackhammers. In contrast, our new neighborhood has tree lined one and two lane streets, tons of brick, more retail, and is far more tranquil. South Park, Epicenter, and Whole Foods will be missed however.

Oh man, I so love the Transamerica pyramid. Don’t know why. Love it. It’s a great landmark for SF. Awesome office you have, congrats! I think I went through that street last time I was in SF. Nice area. Love it.

Looks amazing guys, congratulations on the definite step up. :)

Why did you guys move ?

Carlton Fisk

SOMA is a hole. Great upgrade chaps!

@Jason,

Our previous office was never intended to be a long term solution; it was a turn-key place that was easy to get set up in, kind of like an incubator, but it was expensive, they had a lot of rules, and it had the worst internet you’ve ever seen. So our office manager started scouting for new locations after GDC, knowing that our lease would expire on July 31st.

Wow!!! Congrats to your new office. May i be a little bit jealous? Yes i may ; ) I’ve always loved the city and people of SF! Somebody once said to me: “You know, the real San Franciscan just waits a little bit” Anyway, I wish you all the best!

Nice!!! i love it, congrats

More space, better environment, Food available in the area,
very nice view indeed ok It is seems like we have got everything…
Come on Guys Summer is finishing soon, we need to get the Unity 3 out!
I am so looking forward to it…

Emjoy your new office space.

Excellent! Where are most of you getting your coffee from now that you’ve moved?

Congratulations

@Chris,

That’s really the only downside. There were quite a few hard core espresso/capuchino shops in SOMA, including one on our block, and I’ve yet to find anything equivalent in our new hood. There are like 10 Starbucks in walking distance… but we also have our own kitchen now where we’ve set up a drip coffee maker.

Wow hope all those bricks are earthquake reinforced! Looks like a pleasant area though.

Congratulations! The location looks amazing. And with 10 Starbucks around, you won’t have to worry about having Internet problems at all! :)

It’s beautiful!

Certainly it will inspire you guys to get Unity even better!

From your No.1 fan in West Africa, Congrats!! You’ve got your new office! was just wondering however… when we are going to get our new Unity…

@Thomas: in ’98 my grandma had a faster internet connection than the thing you had in the old office ;] I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll see an improvement on that front.

Wow, this looks awesome – congratz to the new hood and office :-)

Congratz guys-looks like a great place to be!

Cool! Now I can walk over if I have questions!

Jason Amstrad

Yeah,so everything cool and nice and all.
And how is the Umbra demo coming along ?

@Jason
The demos are coming out of Europe, so the SF office move does not impact their progress…

congratulation guys!
it’s really nice!
basically what do you do in SF? any development or coding or just business?

cofee is an important factor in development. in some countries like ours and england tea is a good replacement too. :)

@Chris
The search is finally over! We found a great coffee stand just 1 block away that serves Blue Bottle Coffee.

@Ashkan
The SF office is technically our corporate headquarters and it is where the marketing team, sales team, and strategy team are based out of.

woah.. crazy.
Welcome to the neighborhood i guess. I work in the same building as you guys!
We are over on the side facing broadway. haha.

Btw. Blue Bottle is the sh*t
Now go check out ‘grumpy’s’ for some amazing burgers, and happy hour on thursdays.
(happy hour = $7 pint of guiness and a shot of jameson)
see u there ;P

Hey, you guys used to work in Southpark? That’s where I work now, only a few seconds walk from some awesome restaurants like South Park Cafe, the American Grilled Cheese Cafe, and that yellow cafe (can’t recall the name).

Congrats on the move, though I’m sure you’ll miss all the great places to eat in SP. :)
