Search Unity

A lot can happen in 4 years, and, as far as the Unity Asset Store is concerned, it certainly has. Asset Store growth has outstripped even that of the Unity Engine itself to become a marketplace where almost 1 million developers source the assets they need to make their games.

In fact, the Asset Store was a rip roaring success pretty much from the get go. Within three months of launch in 2010 there were already 10,000 Asset Store users, and the top-selling asset in the store’s first quarter made Brady Wright over $15,000. Today, top sellers make in excess of $30,000 a month.

Caitlyn’s been running the Asset Store since it started, and she’s understandably stoked: “The Unity Asset Store has made a gigantic difference – something we’re incredibly proud of!   Back before we had the Asset Store, we saw indies began sharing their work with one another on the forum – code, models, tools… The Asset Store began as a little experiment to formalize that… to give it a better place than the community forum or wiki page, and to give folks an opportunity to make some money at the same time.”

“Since then, four years later, it’s become a huge shift in the way games and interactive media are made, giving anyone access to some of the best content created by the most talented game artists, programmers, sound designers and creative professionals out there.”

“People tell us constantly that the Asset Store is the most important factor in getting their games done on-time without going over budget. Meanwhile, the pool of ingenious and talented Asset Store content publishers out there who enjoy a liberating new means for making a better, more lucrative living outside of the studio production rat-race is growing at a huge rate.  It’s crazy, how cool this is!”

We love the fact that the Unity Asset Store has been a force to change the gaming industry. Indeed, as a rough and ready estimate, it improves industry productivity to the tune of $1.4 billion dollars a year. Wow!

  2. And after 4 years the Asset Store management still favors the same top sellers when it comes to sales and homepage features… Best example is the current Birthday Bonanza.

Right, you might make a lot money with the Asset Store. But you could make even more, if you would support asset store vendors that actually sell their stuff exclusively in your store and don’t get the attention they deserve.
Instead you support people that make already tons of money and everybody is already aware of. And on top of that lots of those sell their stuff also in Unreal’s Marketplace.

So instead of give yourself a pat on the back you should really think about the stuff that could be improved.

  3. alguem pode me ajudar a registrar no assets story, nao consigo criar a conta. Por favor

  4. it nice i am thinking to upload some assets :)

  5. Happy Birthday !!! Asset Store is one of my main reasons to choose Unity. I could not agree more with these posts above, please implement AS searching system, also, I always wish if I could know in advance which assets going to be discounted for the whole week before, so I don’t need to check the Discount deal every day :)

Congratulations Asset Store, hope you thrive even more in the future! Many thanks to Caitlyn and her collegues!

  7. Many many happy returns of the day Happy Birthday Asset Store :D

  8. Happy birthday asset store! :D

  9. And a big “thank you” to me….. :)

  10. I love the asset store. I’ve bought quite a few assets actually (over 150).

It would be nice if it would load faster (both the home screen and my list of purchased assets). And the search function could be faster too.

I’d like to point out that the current layout for each asset makes it kind of difficult to read the asset description, especially if it is long. It would be nice if you tweaked that.

Lastly, it would be great if there was a standardized way to know the version of each asset I have installed in any given project and if there is an update available.

  11. And in four years, the search options for the Asset Store are still very weak. Please implement some better, more advanced search options!

    1. Yeah, James Hood are right, this very awesome store need a better search engine

    2. Indeed, a better search functionality and better filter options would be soooo helpful

  12. It’s like a dream that’s been coming true since 4 years ago.
Thank you for everything. Happy Birthday!
