Tune in for Autodesk University 2020 from November 17-20 at no cost to check out demos, talks, panels, and classroom sessions from Unity, customers, and partners. Learn alongside your peers in architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and media and entertainment.

It’s almost time for Autodesk University 2020, the global digital event that brings together innovators from around the world—designers, engineers, builders, creators—to explore new ways of imagining, designing, and making. Autodesk University 2020 will feature 750+ new on-demand classes led by industry professionals and Autodesk experts. More than 350 live Q&As will support these classes, in addition, to live panels, roundtables, and meetups.

We’re excited to showcase Unity Reflect and how our customers and partners are harnessing real-time 3D to change the way buildings are designed, created, and operated. Take a look at what we have in store for Autodesk University 2020.

Continuing our collaboration with Autodesk

Our partnership with Autodesk has always been about enabling designers and engineers to transfer models into real-time 3D experiences, including in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Last year at Autodesk University Las Vegas, we launched Unity Reflect, our BIM design and coordination solution that connects all project members on one immersive, collaborative, real-time platform regardless of device, model size, or geographic location.

Unity Reflect launched with a native plugin for Autodesk Revit, allowing users to maintain a live-link to their original design models. Since then, we’ve added support for Autodesk Navisworks, the most popular software to bring design and BIM data to coordination and the field. Be on the lookout for expanded support for Autodesk products, including BIM 360 this year.

Visit us at our virtual booth

We may not be able to talk to you in person this year, but you can still visit us at our virtual booth. Visit us every day at the Autodesk University Answer Bar to ask live Q&A on topics such as architecture, building engineering, civil infrastructure, construction, products, and more. You can also join our virtual meeting room for live demos of Unity Reflect on Wednesday, November 18, and Thursday, November 19.

Contact our sales, engineering, technical marketing, and product teams directly to get your Unity questions answered.

Talks, panels, and classroom sessions

Here are a few Unity, customer, and partner-led sessions at AU 2020. Check back over the next few weeks for signup links and updated dates and times.

Holistic Product Creation

Available on-demand only

Through our multi-dimensional world, the actions and methods by which we solve problems are based on our knowledge and experience. There are new ways to deepen insights into the complexities of product creation. Holistic cross-functional communications provide probability spaces for enterprises to study any potential reality, with a host of relevant data. The distinct advantage is that the outcomes are both data-driven and experiential. Join Elizabeth to hear about how holistic product creation brings global teams together in an inclusive, shared manner that gives everyone a voice. And how cross-functional immersive collaboration can grow into a collective intelligence for an organization so different disciplines can effectively understand each other’s ideas.

The Future of Autodesk XR Connected Experiences

Available on-demand only

Streamlining Communication in AEC with Unity Reflect

Available on-demand only

In the past, the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry relied heavily on in-person interaction, physical models, and 2D visuals. Communicating design intent in this way —especially with COVID-19 impacting the future of work—has posed challenges for design reviews and coordination meetings to provide the right context for all stakeholders. Using real-time BIM enables companies to create immersive, interactive experiences for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Companies can conduct design reviews between designers, owners, and construction trades irrespective of geographic location and iterate across teams before the concrete is poured. This session will explain how Unity Reflect enables immersive design review and coordination to empower better collaboration and faster decision making, bridging the gap between designers and decision-makers.

Technology Trends: Living in the WFH Age

Available on-demand only

Join Autodesk CTO Scott Borduin and technologists from Enscape, HP, Intel, Lenovo, and Unity for candid thoughts on living and thriving in the machine age. How is COVID accelerating reliance on, and innovations around, collaboration? How are platform and solution providers ensuring ethics, security, and trust with remotely shared data? We’ll explore these and other questions, and share forthcoming changes to help Autodesk customers continue to design a future that is better economically, socially, and environmentally.

Creating a Digital Twin with a Point Cloud Environment, 3D CAD, & Interactive VR Training

Wednesday, November 18: 8 a.m. PT

Creating a digital twin enables the ability for safety training in hazardous areas and situations. One technique is using an interactive experience to train in complex and dangerous engineering situations with reality captured environments from laser scans to change and remove components in VR. This technique will make the digital twin approach a new standard in method statements and risk assessments to remove the risk in projects and especially in hazardous environments where mistakes cannot be made.

Unity Reflect Case Studies

Wednesday, November 18: 1 p.m. PT (visit the Unity virtual booth for more info)

Stephanie Long, Managing Partner at Interior Architects, and Steve Droll, Principal at Valerio Dewalt Train, share their experiences with Unity Reflect. Valerio Dewalt Train created a customized Reflect viewer using the Unity engine that includes company branding, unique UI, and full-scale AR that has been integrated with Mapbox. Interior Architects shares how Unity Reflect has eased their design review process for the Unity Austin, TX office, and narrowed the gap between multiple bids from general contractors.

The Power of Reality in Rich, Volumetric, VR Real-Time Experiences

Available on-demand only

This class will present an overview of the workflow of capturing and utilizing real-world urban and natural locations in order to make powerful, real-time, volumetric, 6DOF (six degrees of freedom) virtual reality (VR) experiences. Starting with site-capture methodologies, we will discuss techniques of utilizing 360 panoramas, DSLR photogrammetry, and laser scanning, along with specific hardware concerns. We’ll then cover postproduction workflow, utilizing raw conversion, tone mapping, photogrammetry solves, cleanup, and prep in Maya, then final import into Unity game engine. We will show final examples through a VR headset that illustrates urban CG integration of architectural design as well as natural landscapes.

Leveraging Unity in the New Age of Digital Twins | Booz Allen Hamilton’s Campus Project

Friday, November 20: 10 a.m. PT

Using Unity Reflect, Booz Allen Hamilton leverages digital twins to help build a hospital campus. By implementing AI and other images, they built a 3D digital space to create a holistic planning process from casting a vision to allowing for cross-functional collaboration, to identifying long-term cost savings techniques. In partnership with both Autodesk and Unity, this project grew to a multi-campus relationship due to the integrated approaches from combining applications and platforms.

Delivering an Interactive Solution to Europe’s Largest Regeneration Project Using 3ds Max and Unity Technology

Available on-demand only

This presentation will showcase how a collaborative design approach enabled the project team to deliver a high-quality interactive application on Wembley Park, London. The partnership between 3ds Max software and Unity 3D Technology will feature in this talk, and we’ll focus on how a 7 billion polygon, 3D masterplan model can be displayed interactively, enabling design teams to have a down-to-the-wire approach to uncompromised visual quality. Wembley Park is one of Europe’s biggest regeneration projects with 8,400 homes. The 8.8 million-square-foot mixed-use project is being developed by the multi-award-winning developer, Quintain.
