You’ll build your foundations in core topics like C#, cameras, animation, and lighting. You’ll also begin working with non-Unity applications necessary for the full game dev pipeline, such as Maya, 3DS Max, and Photoshop.

Create a great looking game

The courses include AAA-quality assets used in Swords & Shovels, and at each step, you’ll learn new skills that will make these assets come to life. By the end of the course, you will have a working dungeon crawler style arena battle game. And, it will look amazing!

  1. Completed Swords and Shovels. Had fun, mostly. Beautiful assets, a few nice topics, but otherwise, in its current state, very light on content/instruction, compared to Unity Learn/Tutorials, save a few exceptions.

Most of the courses are fundamentals. Even the ones in Advanced are all titled “[topic] Fundamentals”. Where are the truly advanced/deep-dive courses?

I personally would like to see a few more courses in the vein of Unity Adventure Game Tutorial. That tutorial had some pretty amazing coverage, ranging from high-level concepts, game design, best practices, down to fine-tuning the NavMeshAgent movement/rotation and extending the editor, to create an in-editor interaction system that a non-programmer (artist/game designer) can use.

  2. Thanks for your post. Every day I play games on https://www.freegames66.com/ . I love games. I look forward to creating my own games. I will sign up now

  9. Hi,
I have subscribed and the content there is very good, however , I got the impression from your promo trailer that there would be art creation content as well.
I had a quick look and all art content courses related to the game are locked out to me asking me to go full subscription ( rigging, env. texturing concept art etc) is this the case ?
There is no art content courses in the subscription, they are already on pluralsight just not included in the unity deal. Just looking for verification, I was under the impression it was comprehensive training.
    Thanks for your time.

    1. Yes: promo trailer that there would be art creation content as well. Coming in early 2018, Unity Certified Expert exams will set the standard of excellence for professional Gameplay Programmers and Technical Artists:

      https://blogs.unity3d.com/2017/09/26/sneak-peek-expert-certifications-for-gameplay-programmers-and-technical-artists/

You can start with the actual Unity Certification.

  10. What kind of experience do you need to truly learn? Is this a zero to hero type course?

    1. That is correct. This first set of courses will teach you the core fundamentals of using Unity in game development.

  11. This is brilliant! I’m extremely excited to start this skill path, thank you!

    1. I’m excited to hear that! Let me know if you have any questions, comments or feedback. You can leave it right on the Discussion board on the course pages. That’s where I am most active.

  12. I am a Pluralsight subscriber. Will I get access to these with my current subscription or is this a separate subscription?

    1. Yes! You can find it under the Unity Game Dev: Swords and Shovels Skill Path.

  13. Are the videos closed captioned, and are audio files transcribed for deaf developers?

    1. I have been a Pluralsight subscriber for many years. Their content is very good, however not all courses have closed captioning. I just took a quick look and it appears these courses do not have captions.

      1. There is Closed Captioning on every video. At this point in time, the Unity Animation Fundamentals course and Unity Gameplay Programming course do not, but we are working on getting it enabled very soon. You can also find transcriptions under the Transcriptions tab on each Course Page.

    2. We do provide Closed Captioning on these courses. At the moment, we are still waiting for Closed Captioning on Unity Animation Fundamentals and Unity Gameplay Programming Fundamentals to be enabled. That should be happening very soon. Also, it is worth mentioning that in the Closed Captioning it does not include transcription of sound effects or music playing. (I’m making an assumption from your comment of “are audio files transcribed”.) Hopefully that answers your questions.
