Level up your game graphics with these Universal Render Pipeline tutorials
Learn how to bring your game graphics to life. We’ve gathered the latest tutorial content to level up your game in the Universal Render Pipeline – plus a behind-the-scenes peek at how its features were used to create the Boat Attack game demo (available for download).
The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) is designed for optimized real-time performance and scalability for low- and high-end devices. It supports the latest artist tools, and it’s suitable for 2D, 3D, AR and VR.
We view the URP as the successor to the default rendering pipeline in Unity (a.k.a. the “built-in pipeline”). It’s designed to be the default place for authoring graphics and deploying everywhere, allowing you to achieve beautiful visuals and great performance with maximal platform reach.
URP will reach full parity with the built-in render pipeline and offer even more functionality: improved visual quality, enhanced performance, more features, and rich artist tooling.
We’ve created and curated a selection of video tutorials to help you get started with URP.
Evolving Game Graphics with the Universal Render Pipeline | Unite Now 2020
As part of Unite Now, Andy Touch, Unity’s senior content developer for games, presented a session on how the Boat Attack demo project was created using URP features.
This webinar goes in-Editor to demonstrate how to use some of the newest and most popular graphics features and tools. You’ll learn how the Boat Attack game demo was created using URP, Shader Graph (custom shaders), custom rendering features, and more, to take your cross-platform game visuals to the next level.
Harnessing Light with URP and GPU Lightmapper | Unite Now 2020
In this video, Ciro Continisio, Unity’s lead for developer advocacy for games, shows how lights and shadows work in URP, as well as how to set up a scenario with a mix of real-time shadows, Light Probes, and baked GI.
URP tutorial videos on the Unity YouTube channel
This series of five videos show how to use different aspects of URP for your projects. You can also download the Boat Attack project and explore how it was created here.
Our most recent video is about a highly requested feature, Camera Stacking. In this tutorial, we look at Camera Stacking with the URP to see how you can quickly layer game UI and author a high-quality user experience. You can download the Cockpit demo, along with other URP example projects, here.
Boat Attack and Universal Render Pipeline in Unity
In this video, we take a look at the Boat Attack demo, made with URP and Shader Graph. URP let us design the demo to scale to a wide variety of platforms, including mobile devices, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. We’ll explore different features including Shader Graph, Custom Renderer Passes, and more.
Making a Water Shader in Unity with URP
Learn how Shader Graph and URP were used to create a water shader. Follow this step-by-step process to achieve the high-power results shown in the Boat Attack demo.
Triplanar Effect in Unity URP (Shader Graph tutorial)
This tutorial demonstrates how you can simulate a triplanar effect in URP using Shader Graph.
Simulating Wind in URP (Shader Graph tutorial)
Learn how you can use Shader Graph to simulate wind interacting with vegetation in your scene, drawing examples from the Boat Attack demo.
