The Oculus Quest 2 is here, with full Unity support. Get all the latest news from Facebook Connect 2020, and learn more about building your next VR experience for Oculus.

Unity support for Oculus Quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 is here, with full Unity support. It’s lighter, faster, and has a better display than the first generation, with a lower price point that will further propel VR into people’s living rooms – and now, offices. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Platform, 6GB of RAM, and nearly 2K resolution per eye, the Quest 2 will help bring creators’ visions to life with improved performance and fidelity. We’re also excited to see Oculus Link come out of beta in a few months, allowing Quest users to experience full PC VR, and helping developers to iterate on their projects directly from the Unity editor.

We have been working with Facebook to ensure Unity support for Quest 2. Here’s what you need to know:

  •  Quest 2 is compatible with existing Quest apps and Rift apps with Oculus Link.
  •  The Unity development workflow for Quest 2 remains the same as existing workflows for the Quest platform.
  •  Quest 2 is supported in Unity 2018 LTS and later.

Facebook shared that Oculus Quest continues to see significant growth, with exciting potential for VR developers. Users have spent over $150 million on Quest content, with more than 35 titles generating millions in sales since launching. We’re thrilled to see so many Unity creators achieve success with the Quest platform, and we’re excited about the opportunities that Oculus’s new hardware will unlock. Made With Unity at Facebook Connect

Facebook announced a lot of exciting titles that we can't wait to get our hands-on. Some Made with Unity titles that caught our eye include:

POPULATION: ONE – This 18-player battle royale game has a unique vertical combat system, giving players the freedom to climb anything, fly anywhere, and fight everywhere.

Jurassic World Aftermath – A suspenseful, survival VR adventure set two years after the fall of Jurassic World. To survive and escape, you’ll need to explore, solve puzzles, and find ways to distract and hide from the ferocious Velociraptors stalking your every move.

Onward – A multiplayer FPS that surpassed $1M in revenue in just four days, setting a record for the platform.

Beat Saber: Multiplayer Mode – We’re psyched to challenge our friends and colleagues when Beat Saber is available in a multiplayer mode on Oct 13.

We’re also excited about all the great indie titles coming out of the Oculus Start program and keeping an eye out for the next Beat Saber.

Over 15 developer sessions

Facebook Connect featured more than 15 sessions for developers, covering a range of topics such as streamlining the development process, optimizing your app, and more. Unity cohosted one of these sessions with Oculus, where we cover the latest advances in Quest development with Unity. See the full talk for all the details.

Wrap up

Facebook Connect tells a compelling story about the growth we’ve seen in VR, and how Facebook continues to push this space forward. The real highlight for us is the success and momentum Unity creators have achieved on Oculus’s platform. We’re excited to see what you’ll create next. Get started with your next VR app.
