本日、第一回となるVision VR / AR Summitのオープニングキーノートで、ValveとUnity Technologiesは協力してSteamVRのUnityネイティブ対応を行い、開発者に追加コストなしでこの機能を提供することを発表しました。さらに、新しいVRレンダリングプラグインを追加することでさらなる機能の強化を行います。

このコラボレーションはすべてのUnityを利用する開発者が来るValveのSteamVRプラットフォームへのネイティブサポートを得られるということを意味します。SteamVRのサポートに加えて、Valveはさらなる精度とパフォーマンスのためのUnity向けの高度な描画プラグインを開発し、コンシューマーによりリアルな体験を提供できるようにします。

Valveの共同創設者であるGabe Newell氏はVision Summit中の特別映像の中でこのニュースを発表し、さらに「私たちは多くのVive用デモをUnityで開発し、今日日のVR開発でも使い続けています。その過程、またVR開発者と仕事をするなかでUnityを私たちにとってさらに効率的でパワフルにする機会に恵まれたので、この恩恵をすべてのVRコンテンツ開発者と共有したいのです。」と加えました。

UnityのCEO、John RiccitielloはVision Summitのオープニングキーノートの中でこの発表について触れ「ValveとUnityは両社とも最高品質のVR体験を作成することに注力しています。これは開発者に可能な限り成功するチャンスを提供するということであり、Valveとのコラボレーションはまさにそのためにデザインされているのです。」と話しました。

ValveはVision Summitでセッションも提供し、このローンチを祝って、驚きなことにサミットに参加するすべての開発者に最新のSteamVR開発機であるHTC Vive Preを無料で提供します。より詳しくはhttp://visionsummit2016.com/をチェックしてください。

has anyone received an email yet regarding how they are going to get their vive? Are people that attended the summit but did not qualify as a developer at least going to receive an email letting them know?

Awesome news, even more because I found this goody in my mail recently and can’t wait. Now Unity is going to support it out of the box. =D

I have done mucho testing with a Oculus DK2 and am very excited to add it to my current Steam title. http://store.steampowered.com/app/381750/

I have been kind of “waiting” for a unit to officially support.

To Vulgerstal: Yes, I have a Steam Controller and it works fantastically with Unity. The track pads and the tactile feedback is worth the money. It truly allows you to “game on a PC” from the couch.

I wonder if these changes also affect general, non-VR performance? I suppose we may hear more about it later tonight at the “Using Unity at Valve” talk
