Today, 19% of AEC and manufacturing companies have adopted real-time 3D, according to a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Unity. Nearly all (97%) of non-adopters believe real-time 3D would improve or revolutionize their workflows and processes.

Unlike some of the squeaky wheels here, I am pleased to see Unity increasing its emphasis on usability, education and focused messaging for AEC. Unity stands apart from other AEC software because of its streamlined approach to real-time rendering. Historically and even today AEC software is dominated by pre-rendering solutions. And the AEC market is much slower than the video game market to shift its core toolsets. But, once it does, the winning company can enjoy a 20-year (or more) run at the top.

Kudos to Tony F. and the team for creating a warm landing space for AEC developers! My sincere hope is that Unity is able to nurture an AEC community that is as generous and supportive as the Unity VR community.

Adding these pay walls (like other companys in the AEC area) will one day pay off, negative wise. AEC is a pro area, sure. You want to earn money, sue (most of us want). Just hiding your tools to your vast audience is very alaraming. Hopefully you will not get the bad reputation like other companies which are working at these field (for many years)…

Why are you putting so much emphasis on Unity Pro ?
Unity Personal / Plus and Pro have all the VERY SAME EXACT TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES, there is NO functional difference tech-wise.
So why are you doing this ?
Is Unity Reflect ONLY available with Pro subscription ? If so, can you state this hard requirement publicly ?

Can you explain this ? Cause otherwise it surely doesn’t look like you’re pushing Pro subscription to these companies without them actually realizing it’s not needed, at all.

As a longtime Unity user, I have to say Unity’s situation is getting very worrying and alarming. And judging by what we see in the community, it looks like a majority of people are thinking the same.

Unity clearly appears to have abandoned the idea of giving us solid core tech/tools for making games, and instead shifts its focus almost entirely towards industrial, film, “services” & other non-game sectors. Just look at the blog posts in the last year.

While other engines are being developer-friendly and developing exceptional tools that everyone have been asking for, Unity is still grappling with the same kind of stability/efficiency problems it’s been having forever. And they can’t even offer us a dark theme for free, which is not only incredibly insulting to your customers, but also is a failure to meet even the most basic accessibility requirements. This is shameful and wrong. Please end this absolute circus.

People are looking everywhere for reasons to abandon Unity at this point, and they won’t need much convincing. You have been making yourselves too unlikeable for too long with your out-of-touch buzzword-obsessed PR person attitude. Start acting like humans who listen to your users’ needs, and show us that you care with your actions; not just words. Start with robust, well-tested core game engine tech, and get to the bells & whistles after. I’m well aware you guys are working on DOTS and the SRPs, and I think these things are definitely steps in the right direction, but these still look like an afterthought compared to all the rest, and they seem to be years away from being ready. Ever since 2014, people have been waiting for Unity’s rendering tech to catch up with a certain other engine, and we’re still not there yet after all this time.

After last week’s news from your main competitor, you need to reassure your customers in a big meaningful way, and reaffirm your commitment to making a GAME engine, with stable battle-tested tools that we can rely on. Force all your demo teams to work exclusively with publicly-available engine/package releases. Make demos that are closer to being games than films.

Stop this coverup operations to divert the attention from the core.
Go back to basic and make Unity to fun to work with instead of fighting.
The inconsistent and archaic UI lacking fundamental features make the experience a nightmare; not to mention the clunky Editor performance.
Will Unity ever listen, or do something? They alwasy say they listen, but it’s marketing personal speaking from the bottom orifice. I would like to hear what CEO or CTO has to say about the dire situation.
