Gamescom is one of the largest consumer gaming shows in the world with 345000 visitors over five days attracted to the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

Unity’s main presence at Gamescom is in the trade area where we meet you, the development community. There we host meetings, run feature demos, and answer your burning questions. This year Unity hosted eight studios on our booth to demo their titles, most still in development. These studios were from all over Europe creating a whole variety of different projects/styles/gameplay on a range of platforms.

Also in the trade area is the country pavilion, an area where each country has their own booth to showcase some the talent from their industry. Covering the EMEA region we get to meet many of these lovely folk regularly at industry events, but to see them all in one place just showcases the strength of the European Games Industry. Each country is extremely welcoming and often love to highlight their food and beverage delicacies with the Sweden Game Arena booth hosting a Knackebrod and pickled herring sampling session, the Croatia booth sampling some local Rackia and UK booth transforming their booth to resemble a typical British pub.

But the main event, the madness, the craziness, is the expo floor. Huge aircraft hangar sized rooms filled with the most amazing stands and thousands of metres of wire. In one of these hangars is the Indie Showcase Arena, and Unity is one of the many proud sponsors.

A place for hundreds of developers to have their game in the spotlight in a place where they couldn’t ever afford going alone. Studios from all over the planet bringing their work in progress or completed games to showcase to the masses, get feedback, publicity, and meet their future players. Always a pleasure to see some familiar faces that we’ve seen at conferences previously and for some new developers to appear on our radar and play their games.
