We’re witnessing a rapidly growing demand for real-time 3D development skills across the globe. In fact, two of the fastest-growing engineering roles are in gaming and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). If you’re a student, you have good reason to be interested in learning AR/VR and game development.

According to a recent Hired report, the tech job platform saw a 146% increase in demand for game development roles and a 1400% growth in demand in AR/VR roles in 2019. This is a reflection of the broadening applications of AR/VR across multiple industries where world-building, 3D modeling, and visualization are becoming more relevant.

Whether you’ve got published Unity projects under your belt or you’re just starting to explore your creative or career interests, we are dedicated to supporting you in developing your skills with an arsenal of free learning resources, which now includes the new Unity Student plan.

“We’re witnessing a shift in the way the economy is moving, making real-time 3D skills absolutely imperative for those entering into the job market,” said Jessica Lindl, Vice President and Global Head of Education, Unity Technologies. “It’s critical that we empower students today with the technical skills that will be demanded of them and we believe the Unity Student Plan is the ideal resource for students to hone their craft and gain a competitive advantage in the workforce.”

Gain access to professional tools and workflows

Our student users told us in a recent survey that most of them learn Unity not just as a hobby, but for their career pursuits. Students also shared that if they learn Unity at school, they primarily learn by working on group projects, where collaboration is critical but can be time-consuming.

That’s why the Unity Student plan provides access to professional resources and tools like cloud-based collaboration which enable students to use the same workflows that teams use on real-world projects:

Cloud-based Collaboration

Work on group projects with up to five teammates, manage versions, share work with teachers, and easily move between home and school computers.

Cloud Build

Speed up build and iteration cycles on complex projects using minimal hardware. See the impact of your changes quickly, and learn more effectively.

Learn Premium

Supplement in-class learning and dive into the topics you care about most with unlimited access to on-demand, industry-specific resources to solve problems on your own, such as this popular Introduction to XR: VR, AR, and MR Foundations course.

Learn about the foundations of XR, build simple XR applications on your smartphone, and create your own peer-reviewed product brief for your original XR application.

Student Asset Pack
Prototype and iterate your game projects quickly with free access to the Snaps Prototype pack. Beginners can create 3D worlds with ProBuilder and Snaps, without having to use additional 3D modeling tools. These assets easily snap together with ProGrids.

Dark UI theme

Develop your game or project within a dark UI environment.

GitHub Student Developer Pack

We’ve partnered with GitHub, who are similarly committed to empowering student creators, to provide the Unity Student plan. That means when you sign up for the Unity Student plan, and your student status is verified by GitHub, you’ll also get automatic access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack, which provides free access to the best developer tools from more than 100 partners, and growing.
